Dubai Travel, Visas, Etc.

More and more westerners are becoming Dubai Resident, and Dubai authorities also promoting them. Many issues will come up later due to their way of life v/s Dubai’s.

For instance there is nothing called age of consent in Arab countries any sex out side marriage is illegal. In The West,marriage between gays and lesbian are legal, and they can live their life that way but not here. Will the Dubai authorities take a blind eye towards these groups sexuality or will they be zero tolerant?

and they’re planning to build a new type of building, it has its own yard, plants on every floor (a total of 20) its for residential living, its not shape like a square, think of it like skipping stones stacked together, neat ha, and it spins, yes it rotates very slowly… so ur view is always changing so slow that the residents wont feel it but its rotating, uses solar power and something else, self efficient building…..

If I had the money, I would invest but that has got to be the best city in the world…. Of course that’s after they finish construction… in a few years or more….. dang… cant wait….

So what do u guys think…. Awesome city or what… and don’t hate it just because u want to represent ur city… or because u hate where Dubai is located… judge it base on what it has compared to other cities…..

i am planning to goto Dubai for a week this august.. i am in us and holding a f1 visa (foreign passport). after going to dubai, will be going to india for about a month.. how should i proceed about to get a temp/transit/visitor/tourist visa? i do not know what type of visa to apply for..

any advice will be greatly appreciated… Thanks!

I am planning to go to India on a vacation through Dubai. I wanted to buy gold coins in dubai Airport. 1) Will I get the gold coins for lesser price in dubai airport ?
2) Will there be any difference in terms of price with the gold coin in India and USA.
3) I have never to Dubai and planning to stop in dubai specially in buying gold. Pls suggest will it be a worth to buy gold in dubai airport..

A Dubai Taxi cannot pickup passengers from Sharjah
Likewise, a Sharjah Taxi cannot pickup passengers from Dubai

….. by law!

So, finding a taxi to take you from Dubai to Sharjah or vice-versa is nearly impossible during rush hour; because the Taxi drivers get by paid by commission and if they take you from one Emirate to another, they’ll have to return passengerless possibly wasting a couple of hours of their workday.

All in all, the passengers don’t benefit.
The drivers don’t benefit

What good is the law then?

This is supposed to be the United Arab Emirates. How United can it be when one Emirate cannot collaborate with the other to help their people out?

Note: I don’t know about the other Emirates, though I’d love insights about them from residents.
Anooni, I have this issue just about everyday going from Sharjah to Dubai and back. Like I said, I’m not sure how it works in other Emirates but Dubai taxis cannot (for sure) pick up passengers from Sharjah and Sharjah taxis from Dubai… its a Dh.2000 fine for the driver for the violation.
desertbloom - I like your suggestions, but I wouldn’t blame the taxi drivers. They’re only trying to make a living. Wouldn’t it frustrate you if an adamant client of yours waste 2 hours when you get paid by the hour?

I am 18+ yr old boy on my father’s residence visa from Sharjah.

We have 3 bookshops and a trading license of Dubai and Sharjah.In Dubai we have 1 book shop and Sharjah we have 2 bookshops.I study in Dubai-Knowledge Village.

A friend of mine working in emirates driving institute told me if I can get a copy of my father,no objection letter,dubai’s trading license copy,dubai book shop’s legal papers etc,my university’s letter stating that I study in Dubai campus and go to Roads and Transport Authorities(RTA) in Dubai and request them to open my file in dubai for driving license,then I will be able to start my driving lessons in Dubai.

I really need to start my driving lessons in Dubai as it will be easy for me to travel and also in Sharjah they take a lot of time.

Note-I have also opened my driving license file in Sharjah driving institute in January and since then I am waiting.

Will The RTA department will allow me to open my file in dubai?Any suggestion or hint?

I am a US citizen, got a job in Dubai. I’ve sent my documents to my sponsoring company that included my medical physical exam 2 weeks ago. Any idea how much longer it will take to secure the work permit/residence visa for them? I’ve already quit my job here in the US after I was instructed that I could do so by the company in Dubai. But I’m starting to get nervous now incase it will take much longer. Any personal experience/knowledge will be appreciated. From what I’ve read online, it says the medical exam will be in Dubai once you get there but this company made me do it here (chest Xray, blood and urine tests etc).
Luck why did it take so long for you? Was the delay on your part as far as getting proper documents?
Sundeep and Faisal? Did you get your medical in the US also? My company is a major American/International Engineering company and they asked me to get Chest X-ray, HIV test, TB test and Urinalysis. I got those done through my primary care physician/lab. Thanks

I have a return ticket from Africa to India via Dubai. My airlines doesn’t want to help me to arrange a Dubai visa for 1 week. But I want to travel from here with Dubai landing visa. And call my wife and a kid also with the same Visa from India on the same date of my landing.

So we can stay in Dubai together for 1 week.

My son is working in Dubai on a work permit provided by his company. My grand children are studying in a school there.

If my son wants to change his job, can he resign from his present company and join another company while continuing to stay in Dubai or will he and his family have to come back to India first and then search for a job for Dubai from india.

In this case, the education of the grandchildren will get badly affected. Is there a way like buying a flat in his name in Dubai which gets him Residency Visa and then his hunting for a job while continuing their stay in Dubai
